PUNTA RESTUCCIA

General Description

The Punta Restuccia dive begins on a top 5 m deep, and proceeds in large steps down to the depth of 40 m. The profile of the coast highlights the presence of numerous small caves and niches, alternating with channels abounding in inhabited lairs. These give rise to an intricate maze of hiding places that are ideal for a wide range of marine organisms.

Naturalistic Features

This area is teeming with moray eels, congers, octopi, scorpionfish, forkbeards, and rays, as well as countless species of small crustaceans. The walls and ceilings of the small vaults are covered by colourful sponges, with coral, Polychaetes, and fake coral inhabiting the corners. Mediterranean fanworms stand out along the underwater slopes, with swarms of chromis chromis and swallowtail seaperch swimming above. Various species of sea slugs can also be found. The sedentary fish species include groupers of various sizes. Punta Restuccia is a transit point for schools of greater amberjacks, bluefish, barracuda, and bluefin tuna. Dolphins often come close to shore in the springtime.
